It can be climbed from a trailhead on [[Keese%20Mills%20Road|Keese Mills Road]] west of Paul Smiths, or from a trail that starts at a landing on [[Upper%20Saint%20Regis%20Lake|Upper Saint Regis Lake]] just south of [[Camp%20Topridge|Camp Topridge]], a Great Camp built by [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Merriweather_Post|Marjorie Merriweather Post]]. <sup>1</sup> The view from the summit includes thirty lakes, including the [[Upper%20Saranac%20Lake|Upper]] and [[Lower%20Saranac%20Lake|Lower Saranac Lake]], and [[Upper%20Saint%20Regis%20Lake|Upper]] and [[Lower%20St.%20Regis%20Lake|Lower St. Regis Lake]]. <sup>2</sup>

The summit is bare rock, having been cleared by a fire started accidentally by a surveying party led by [[Verplanck%20Colvin|Verplanck Colvin]] in 1876. There is a [[St.%20Regis%20Mountain%20Fire%20Observation%20Station|fire tower]] on the summit that was restored in 2016 and is now open to the public.
