'''Marjorie M. Smith''' (also known as Marjorie I. Smith<sup>1</sup>) was a great granddaughter of [[http://localwiki.net/hsl/Rev._Samuel_Smith|Rev. Samuel Smith]], the first Methodist preacher in Saranac Lake. She graduated from [[Saranac%20Lake%20High%20School|Saranac Lake High School]] in the class of 1920 or 1921. She lived with her sister [[Helen%20Smith|Helen]] in the family home on [[Smith%20Road|Smith Road]], later called [[Trudeau%20Road|Trudeau Road]], and is buried in [[Pine%20Ridge%20Cemetery|Pine Ridge Cemetery]].

<span>SARANAC LAKE - Miss Marjorie Smith, 80, of Trudeau Road and a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, died this morning at the [[General%20Hospital|General Hospital]] of Saranac Lake.

<span>She was born June 6, 1902 in Saranac Lake, the daughter of [[Edward%20Smith|Edward]] and [[Cora%20Norton%20Smith|Cora (Norton) Smith]].

<span>A cousin Eleanor of California survives. Miss Smith has been employed as a bacteriologist at [[Trudeau%20Sanatorium|Trudeau Sanatorium]] and later at [[Trudeau%20Institute|Trudeau Institute]] until her retirement. She also worked for several years as a volunteer for the [[St.%20Bernard's%20School|St. Bernard's School]] library.

<span>Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the [[Fortune%20Funeral%20Home|Fortune Funeral Home]] and include a Bible vigil that evening.

<span>A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at [[St.%20Bernard's%20Church|St. Bernard's Church]].

Richards, author of ''The Reverend Samuel Smith and Family, 1804 - 2006'', suggest that she may have made the change when she joined the Catholic Church, as a new baptismal name would have been quite common.
