What do you know about 1940 summer? My parents put 11 year old Me on the train from New York City to Saranac Lake (where a nice gentleman taught me a different solitaire and the stewardess kept an eye on me). I stayed with my maiden Aunt Libbe, my father's only sister, who had gone there to recuperate from tuberculosis, and stayed on the rest of her life, in 67 Water Street [sic: almost certainly 67 River Street, as Elsie Dami and her son, John, lived there], right on Lake Flower.  Johnny Dami, who lived there with his mother, and I, fished in the lake while standing on a culvert that extended from the water to the land in back of our house.  Penny Rosenbaum was my aunt's friend who also lived in that house. Knowing that her skinny niece liked corn on the cob, that was served to me every day.  First time anyone noticed my growing up, Aunt Libbe commented on a little puff in my breasts. I stayed for a whole month, the only time I was away from my family until I went to camp at age 13. My family, husband and two boys, spent 30 years in the Adirondacks (Indian Lake) and son still has a cabin there.  Yeah, I'm 87 now and still treasure that memory.
