Howard P. Moody, 24, of [[4%20Duprey%20street|4 Duprey street]], Saranac Lake, is held at the Essex county jail at Elizabethtown charged with first degree assault following the pistol shooting of [[William%20Moody|William Moody]], 37 [[4%20Crossfield%20Avenue|4 Crossfield Avenue]] at 8:30 p. m. Sunday at the latter's home.

William Moody, who was shot once in the mouth, is in the [[Saranac%20Lake%20General%20hospital|Saranac Lake General hospital]], where his condition is reported "very good". He was struck in the right upper lip by a bullet, which then shattered several teeth, and may have broken the lower jaw, it was reported at the hospital.

The two men are not related.

Howard Moody, arrested Sunday evening by village police, waived examination on arraignment at Saranac Lake Monday morning by District Attorney Harold R. Soden of Essex county. He was taken immediately to the jail after the hearing.

Police charged that Moody, a veteran of World War II, who was wounded in the European theater and awarded the bronze star for bravery, stood outside the home of William Moody and shot three times at the latter while he was listening to the radio, the shooting being done, it is said, by a 765 mm. pistol, (equal to a .32) brought from Europe as a souvenir by Howard Moody. Revenge was stated as the motive for the shooting.

Moody was arrested late Sunday evening in a Saranac Lake tavern by police, without showing resistance. Information was furnished by Mrs. William Moody. Police said that Howard Moody had gone to the William Moody home Saturday night but had not seen the shooting Victim.

William Moody, the son of Mr. and Mrs. [[Henry%20Moody|Henry Moody]], is a painter and handyman at Saranac Lake. His wife and the wife of Howard Moody, are sisters.

Howard Moody had been living with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. [[Charles%20Moody|Charles Moody]]. The weapon which is said to have been used, and which has not been recovered, had not been registered by Howard Moody, as is required by law.

SARANAC LAKE — Howard E. Moody of Broadway died Saturday evening at [[Saranac%20Lake%20General%20Hospital|Saranac Lake General Hospital]]. Mr. Moody was born in Saranac Lake, Aug. 26, 1923, the son of Charles and Ida Scofield Moody.

He was a veteran of World War II and was a sergeant in the army.

Mr. Moody is survived by Mace Moody, of [[Lake%20Clear|Lake Clear]] and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call tonight between 7 and 9 at the [[Fortune%20Funeral%20Home|Fortune Funeral Home]]. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Reverend [[Eric%20King|Eric King]], pastor of the [[United%20Methodist%20Church|United Methodist Church]] officiating, interment will follow in the. [[Pine%20Ridge%20Cemetery|Pine Ridge Cemetery]].
