LAKE PLACID - Alice V. (Duprey) Keough, 104, formerly of [[148%20Lake%20Flower%20Avenue|148 Lake Flower Avenue]], Saranac Lake, died Oct. 21, 1993 at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was born Dec. 31, 1888 in Witherbee, the daughter of [[Syriac%20Duprey|Syriac]] and [[Elizabeth%20R.%20Duprey|Elizabeth (Russette) Duprey]]. She was married to the late John E. Keough on April 10, 1910 at the old [[St.%20Bernard%27s%20Church|St. Bernard's Church]] in Saranac Lake by the Rev. [[John%20J.%20Waters|John J. Waters]]. He died on Sept. 29, 1957.

Mrs. Keough was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and moved to the area with her family in 1892 at the age of 4. She attended school in Saranac Lake in the late 1800s and later worked at the [[Ray%20Brook%20Sanatorium|Ray Brook Sanatorium]]. In 1920, Mrs. Keough operated a [[cure%20cottage|cure cottage]] at 148 Lake Flower Ave. for tuberculosis patients. In 1925, she decided to enter the tourism business by converting a cow barn into the first cottage in the area, which became known as the Keough Tourist Lodge. This later became Keough's Motel, which currently is the site of the Adirondack Comfort Inn, and McKenzie's Grille on [[Lake%20Flower%20Avenue|Lake Flower Avenue]] in Saranac Lake. She managed the motel until she retired in 1977 because of illness. She was a lifetime member of the Court St. Bernard's Catholic Daughters of America, a member of St. Bernard's Church and the oldest known resident of Saranac Lake at the time of her death.

Survivors include a son, [[Charles%20Keough|Charles Keough]] of Saranac Lake; a grandson, [[Ronald%20Keough|Ronald Keough]]; five granddaughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Estes, Mrs. Stephen (Jeanne) Callaghan, Mrs. Steven (Lynn) Bombard, Mary Lou Keough and Mrs. Jeffrey (Amy) Whisher; 11 great-grandchildren; 12-great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Having died before her are: two sons, Eugene P. Keough and George L. Keough; eight brothers, Syriac Jr., Oliver, Edmund, Raymond, Philip, Leo, Lawrence and Clarence Duprey; and four sisters, Jennie Duprey, Hazel Hall, Clarie Otis and Ann Russ.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the [[Fortune-Keough%20Funeral%20Home|Fortune-Keough Funeral Home]] in Saranac Lake. A Catholic Daughters service is set for 7:45 p.m. Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow in [[St.%20Bernard%27s%20Cemetery|St. Bernard's Cemetery]].

Memorial contributions may be made to the Uihlein Mercy Center, St. Bernard's Church or the Catholic Daughters Memorial Fund Court St. Bernard's in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
