'''Andrew W. Callanan''' was a member of the well-known firm of [[Branch%20and%20Callanan|Branch and Callanan]], which built many of the finest buildings in Saranac Lake and vicinity. "A. W. Callanan" is also noted as a member of the Knights of Columbus who served in WWI. He was a founding member of the [[Saranac%20Lake%20Golf%20Club|Saranac Lake Golf Club]].

After the fire of August, 1930, which destroyed the firm's millwork plant, Callanan, in his capacity as treasurer of Branch and Callanan, filed suit against the village trustees for $189,000, charging the village with failure to maintain an adequate fire department or to provide adequate water pressure. <sup>1</sup>
