'''Dr. Anthony J. Lanza''' worked in the Saranac Laboratory. Dr. Lanza was a member of the Trudeau Board and also of the Board of the Industrial Hygiene Foundation of Mellon Institute. It is Dr. Lanza, vice president of the Trudeau Foundation, who is credited with establishing the first contact between the two organizations.

'''World-Famed Health Experts To Attend Saranac Symposium''' 

The Seventh Saranac Symposium, which opened on September 22, 1952, attracted to Saranac Lake approximately 200 world-famed medical and industrial experts for discussions of health problems pertaining to workers exposed by inhalation to industrial substances. The Saranac Laboratory was the host. The Symposium was by far the biggest ever to be held here since they were begun by the late Dr. Leroy U. Gardner. The health of workers in coal, silica, asbestos, beryllium and bauxite industries was discussed. A large place in the Symposium was given to cancer of the lung in workers exposed to various industrial substances. Engineering, medical, legal and social angles of the industries were explored. 

Among those who attended the meetings was Dr. Anthony J. Lanza, chairman of the Institute of Industrial Medicine New York University. Dr. Lanza delivered the Leroy U. Gardner memorial lecture.
