''Malone Farmer'', July 29, 1914 

Asher Williams, of Saranac Lake, formerly of [[Bloomingdale|Bloomingdale]], and a well-known civil war veteran, ran from the [[Bloomingdale%20road|Bloomingdale road]] in a state of dementia Monday morning, leaped over the bank into the [[Saranac%20river|Saranac river]] and was drowned. His body was found half an hour later 400 feet down stream in three feet of water. He resided with his daughter, Mrs. [[Charles%20Gay|Charles Gay]], at Saranac Lake, and said he was going to Bloomingdale when he left his home. His mind had been failing for a year and he had been carefully watched. Mrs. Gay's son was sent down the road with a hack for him after he left the house and when he saw that he was pursued he jumped into the stream. He was 77 years of age.
