'''Build Road For Fire Trucks Near Ampersand''' 

The Cold River section, a vast tract of state-owned land beyond [[Ampersand%20Pond|Ampersand Pond]], will have long needed fire protection as the result of one of the Civilian Conservation Corps projects now well under way. 

Conservation Commissioner Lithgow Osborne just completed an inspection of the project, which included a hike of miles over trails in order to work out the most feasible route for a road over which trucks can pass in case of fire. 

The Commissioner decided that under the rulings governing C. C. C. work this road cannot be constructed for the use of the public or individuals. It will be used by [[Conservation%20Department|Conservation Department]] trucks, only, and by them only in case of fire. 

Therefore, Mr. Osborne ordered the construction of a gate, which will be kept padlocked, at a point on the road a short distance from where it connects with private property, over which the trucks will have right of way in case of fire. 

This work is being done by youths from the camp at Cross Clearing. A sub-camp has been established in the Cold River country, and the work is under the direction of [[E.%20A.%20Sterling|E. A. Sterling]], forester.
