Infantry Officer Reported to Have Died in Action in Italy, Apr. 24

Second Lieut. Fred J. Guyette, a native of Rouses Point, was killed in action on the Cassino front in Italy, on April 24, according to a War Department communication received by his wife, who resides at Saranac Lake.

The War Department message read:

"Regret to inform you of the death in action on April 24 of your husband, Second Lieutenant Fred J. Guyette, U. S. Army Infantry, during operations against the enemy in Italy. Further information will be forwarded by letter when available.

Lieut. Guyette was born at Rouses Point and attended Rouses Point High School. For some years previous to enlistment two years ago, he was employed at [[Ray%20Brook%20State%20Hospital|Ray Brook State Hospital]].  After enlistment, he followed basic training at Camp Croft, S. C., and Fredericksburg. Later he was selected for the officer candidate school at Fort Benning, Ga. He received his commission in December, 1942. He went overseas last January and had been in continuous action in the front lines since arriving in Italy.

Besides his wife, Lieut. Guyette is survived by his father, Wilbur Guyette of Rouses Point; two brothers, George Guyette of Oneida, and Edward Guyette, serving with the army in England; also one sister, Miss Irene Guyette of New York City.
