George K. Whitman, 63, died Tuesday in Sodus, Mr. Whitman was born Nov. 2, 1900 in Saranac Lake, a son of Alvin and Margaret King Whitman.

He was employed st the [[Saranac%20Lake%20Post%20Office|Saranac Lake Post Office]] in the parcel post department for 30 years and retired ten years ago. From 1922 to 1939 he was a member of the [[National%20Guards|National Guard]] and when the Guard was called to service in 1939 he went along as a second lieutenant. He served as a recruiting officer and was discharged in 1947 as a first

Survivors are his wife, Josephine Conroy, and a sister, [[Blanche%20Whitman|Mrs. Blanche Pender]] of Syracuse.

Friends may call, beginning Thursday, at the [[Fortune%20Funeral%20Home|Fortune Funeral Home]]. A funeral service will be held there at 11 a. m. Friday with the Rev. [[Peter%20O.%20W.%20Hill|Peter O. W. Hill]], rector of the [[Church%20of%20St.%20Luke%2C%20the%20Beloved%20Physician|Church of St. Luke, the Beloved Physician]], officiating. Internment will be in [[Harrietstown%20Cemetery|Harrietstown Cemetery]].
