'''Horton Duprey''' was a veteran of [[World%20War%20I%20Veteran|World War I]] and of [[World%20War%20II|World War II]].  He was a son of [[Oliver%20Duprey|Oliver]] and [[Lucy%20Daniels%20Duprey|Lucy Daniels Duprey]]. He lived in Saranac Lake and spent his final years in Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid and he lived to the ripe old age of 103, and to have sold his extensive collection of Saranac Lake history materials to someone in Florida. He is buried in [[Pine%20Ridge%20Cemetery|Pine Ridge Cemetery]].

SARANAC LAKE - Horton J, Duprey, 103, formerly of [[10%20Edward%20Street|10 Edward St]], Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Uihlein Mercy Center at Lake Placid.

Born March 9, 1897 in Saranac Lake he was. a son of Oliver and Lucy (Daniels) Duprey.

Duprey was a veteran of WWI serving in the Army. He is the last known survivor of WWI in Northern New York. From 1920 until 1941 he operated the Duprey garage. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the Navy until 1946. He was a Mercury outboard motor dealer and was known to have the largest parts inventory “East of the Mississippi.”

He was well known as a marine mechanic and operated his business from 1947 until 1984. He was also known as an Adirondack historian. He was self-taught on the bugle, trumpet and musical saw and played for the [[Saranac%20Lake%20Band|Saranac Village Band]] in the 1930s, which played at concerts at the beach house on [[River%20Street|River Street]]. His great-uncle, William Snay, was in the military unit that cornered John Wilkes Booth following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Duprey enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved, his beagle dogs. Survivors include 10 nieces and nephews: [[Clarence%20Duprey|Clarence Duprey Jr.]], Anthony Duprey Sr., Eugene D. Brewster Sr., [[Oliver%20Duprey|Oliver Duprey]] and [[Dennis%20Duprey|Dennis Duprey]], all of Saranac Lake, Ronald Duprey of Syracuse, Gary Duprey of Wilmington and Sally Ann Weaver of Ellenwood, N.J., Hazel D'Onofrio of Albany, [[Ray%20LaRose|Raymond LaRose]] of Saranac Lake and Lillian Prue of Brockport.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, [[Clarence%20Duprey|Clarence Duprey Sr.]], and a sister, Alta LaRose, and nephews, [[Oliver%20LaRose|Oliver]], Donald and Horton LaRose.

Calling hours and the funeral service will be private at the [[Fortune-Keough%20Funeral%20Home|Fortune-Keough Funeral Home]] in Saranac Lake. Interment will be in [[Pine%20Ridge%20Cemetery|Pine Ridge Cemetery]].
