'''JOHN D. PLANT DIES IN JERSEY''' 

John D. Plant, former director of physical education at Peddie School and Bucknell University and a well known Summer resident of this area, died Saturday night in Hightstown, N.J. at the home of his brother, Leonard A. Plant. 

He was 76 years old. 

Mr. Plant, [[Earl%20C.%20MacArthur|Earl C. MacArthur]], former president of [[Paul%20Smith%27s%20College|Paul Smith's College]], and [[E.%20Arthur%20Rogers|E. Arthur Rogers]], of The Enterprise staff, were the original owners of a private camp for boys, [[Camp%20Kanuka|Camp Kanuka]], on [[Osgood%20Pond|Lake Osgood]]. Later operated by Mr. Plant, the Kanuka Camps moved to their present site on [[Lake%20Clear|Lake Clear]]. 

Born in Staffordshire, England, Mr. Plant came to this country when a small child. His family settled in Trenton. N.J. 

Following his graduation from Peddie School in Hightstown he was appointed director of physical education there and served that post until 1926 when he was appointed to a similar position at Bucknell. At Bucknell Mr. Plant achieved prominence as a coach in basketball and track. During his career at Peddie basketball teams he coached won six state preparatory school titles in seven years. 

Mr. Plant was a member of both [[Odd%20Fellows|Odd Fellows]] and [[Masonic|Masonic]] organizations and often attended meetings in Saranac Lake. 

He is survived by his widow, the former Mrs. Metta E. Farrington, of Lewisburg, Pa., a stepson, Allen Farrington, who spent last Winter at [[6%20Broadway|6 Broadway]], Saranac Lake, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Frederick A. Straley of Lewisburg, Pa.
