SARANAC LAKE - Mrs. Katherine C. Starks, 80, died Saturday at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. 

Mrs. Starks was born in Saranac Lake, a daughter of [[Patrick%20Carey|Patrick]] and [[Anna%20Finnegan%20Carey|Anna Finnegan Carey]]. She was employed and active in the George L. [[Starks%20Hardware|Starks Hardware]] Co. for many years. On June 9, 1941, she married George Starks who died in September, 1946. 

Mrs. Starks was active in [[St.%20Bernard%27s%20Church|St. Bernard's Church]] affairs, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and was instrumental in establishing the [[Carmelite%20Monastery|Carmelite Monastery]] in Saranac Lake. In later years she was mainly interested in and devoted to the Carmelites. 

Survivors are a brother, Henry A. Carey of Ithaca; a nephew, Henry A. Carey, Jr. of Portland, Ore.; two nieces, Mrs. Jarnes (Jean) Buckley of Holly, Mich, and Mrs. Henry (Rita) Guriac[?] of Ithaca; and many cousins. 

Friends may call at the [[Keough%20and%20Son%20Memorial%20Chapels|Keough and Son Memorial Chapels]]. A Bible Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of  the Resurrection  will be offered at 10 am. Wednesday at St. Bernards Church. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keeseville.
