<span>SARANAC LAKE — Louis Cohen, 80, of [[G.W.%20Gahan%20Cottage|176 Lake Street]], a lifelong resident of this area, died yesterday at the [[Saranac%20Lake%20General%20Hospital|Saranac Lake General Hospital]].

<span>Mr. Cohen was born Dec. 7, 1898 in [[Bloomingdale|Bloomingdale]], the son of [[David%20Cohen|David]] and Betsy Zagler Cohen. He ran a wholesale plumbing, heating and building supply business with his family until his retirement several years ago.

<span>He was a member of [[Masonic%20Temple|Whiteface Mt. Lodge]], Free and Accepted Masons; the Shriners and B.P.O. [[Elks|Elks]] Lodge No. 1508.

<span>Mr.Cohen is survived by his wife, the former Gladys Baker, and two nieces: Mrs. [[Philip%20Feinberg%20|Philip Feinberg ]]of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Jacob Sirlin of Hollywood, Fla.

<span>There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be said tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the North Elba Jewish Cemetery with Rabbi Selig Auerbach officiating.

<span>Our condolences to the family of Louis Cohen — he, his brothers and sisters were part of the community for many years, and Louis was the last of them. Not many can remember the father, Dave, who began the hardware business here in the early part of the century and thru hard work and fair dealing built a fine business that warranted opening a branch in Saranac Lake. Even after the business was sold, Louis still operated a pipe and culvert business using part of the old property for storage. If you are new to the community 'Cohen's Store', as it was called, was called, was in the building where [[Henry%20Jakobe|Henry Jakobe]] has his Winter Antique Shop, and the Cohen family used to live upstairs.<span><span>

'''MORTGAGE SALE'''

Mortgagors: Leo A. Malone and Genevieve R. Malone; Mortgagee: D. Cohen & Sons, Inc.; Assignee: Adirondack National Bank & Trust Company; Second Assignee, and present owner and holder, D. Cohen & Sons, Inc.; Mortgage dated March 23, 1929, and recorded in the office of the Clerk of Essex County at Elizabethtown, N. Y., March 28, 1929, at 9.00 o'clock A. M. in Book 85 of Mortgages at page 302.

The amount claimed to be due upon said mortgage at the date of the first publication of this notice is the sum of $2457.00.

Default having been made in the condition of said mortgage whereby the power to sell therein contained became operative and no action having been brought to recover the debt secured by the said mortgage or any part thereof, now therefore, notice is hereby given according to the statute in such case made and provided, that by virtue of the power of sale contained in said mortgage and duly recorded therewith as aforesaid, the said mortgage will be foreclosed by a sale of the premises therein described by the subscriber, the second assignee and present owner and holder, aforesaid, at public auction on the 6th day of March, 1934, at 11 o'clock, A. M., at the front door of the North Elba Town Hall on River Street, Saranac Lake Village, Essex County, N. Y., and the terms of sale will be cash for the amount due on the mortgage debt, and the costs of sale and necessary disbursements, of conducting sale.

Said premises are described in said mortgage as follows:

"ALL THAT TRACT OR PARCEL OF LAND, situate in the Town of North Elba, County of Essex and State of New York, being part of Lot 217, Township 11, Old Military Tract, Richard's Surrey, and more particularly described as follows:—BEGINNING at a nickel bolt set in a drill hole in a rock, marking the comer of Lots 217, 218, 237 and 238; running thence north along the line between Lots 217 and 237, 305.5 feet to an iron pipe; thence west 50 feet to a cross on a rock; thence north parallel to said lot line, 382.96 feet to an iron pipe set in the southerly line of the State Highway leading from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake; thence S. 86° 31' W along the southerly line of said highway, 148.85 feet to an iron pipe; thence south parallel to said lot line, 613.2S feet to an iron pipe set in the line between Lots 217 and 218; thence S. 85° 08' E. along the last mentioned lot line, 200.25 feet to the place of beginning, containing 2.47 acres, more or less, and as shown on a map made by [[Harry%20Hull|Harry Hull]], C. E., Lake Placid, N.Y., September, 1923, entitled "Map of Farm Lot and Dashnaw Place".

ALSO the land to the center of said State Highway where it abuts said premises subject to the use thereof for street purposes. BEING the same premises conveyed by Joseph S. Sterling and Christine Kraft Sterling, his wife, to Leo A. Malone, by deed dated July 8th, 1926, and recorded in the Essex County Clerk's office on July 12th, 1926, in Liber 183 of Deeds at page 561."
