'''Mary Landon MacKenzie''' was the long-time historian for the Town of North Elba and the Village of Lake Placid. She was appointed 1964 and served for 37 years. Her "territory" included [[Ray%20Brook|Ray Brook]] and extended into the North Elba portion of the Village of Saranac Lake. She wrote a definitive article tracing the route of the [[Northwest%20Bay%20Road|Northwest Bay]]/[[Old%20Military%20Road|Old Military Road]] as it wended its way from Northwest Bay on Lake Champlain to Hopkinton, as well as many other letters and articles on subjects such as the [[Jacob%20Smith%20Moody|Jacob Smith Moody]] family genealogy.
