Rawson L. Hayes who had been in poor health for several months, passed away at his home<span> <span>on the<span> <span>[[River%20Road| road]] last Sunday evening, at the age of 85 years. The funeral was held at his late<span style=""> <span>residence on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. S. T. Ruck conducting the services. He is<span> <span>survived<span> <span>by<span> <span>three daughters, Mrs. John<span> <span>Redwood<span> <span>of Palmyra, Mrs. Anna Thorns of Lake Placid<span> <span>and<span> <span>Mrs. C. <span>A. Tallman<span> <span>Jr., of Jamaica. Three sons, Sanford<span> <span>of this village, Clark, of<span> <span>Lake<span> <span>Placid and Eric of Westport. Also seventeen grandchildren<span> <span>and<span style=""> <span>seventeen<span> <span>great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hayes’ family were among the earliest<span style=""> <span>settlers in<span> <span>the<span> <span>Adirondacks. He was<span> <span>one of<span> <span>the most popular of the old time guides when this vicinity<span> <span>was almost an unbroken wilderness <span>and in<span> <span>the<span style=""> <span>many<span style=""> <span>years of<span> <span>his life had seen many changes as<span> <span>the country<span> <span>developed in a<span> <span>rapid<span> <span>manner. Mr. Hayes was<span> <span>of<span> <span>a<span> <span>pleasant genial disposition and had a<span> <span>wide circle who will miss his passing. He was a member and faithfully attendant of<span> <span>the [[Episcopal%20Church%20of%20the%20Redeemer|Episcopal church]] as long as<span> <span>his health<span> <span>permitted.<span> <span>The<span> <span>burial was<span> <span>in<span> <span><span>[[Brookside%20cemetery| ]]<span>[[Brookside%20cemetery|cemetery]].
