She was the second child of [[Jeremiah%20Merrill|Jeremiah Degroff Merrill]] and his second wife, Louisa Washburn Merrill (1829-1908) of [[Merrillsville|Merrillsville]]. Sarah is buried in the [[Harrietstown%20Cemetery|Harrietstown Cemetery]].
