'''Stephen Ford Thomas''' was the son of Captain [[Roland%20Thomas|Roland Thomas]] and the grandson of Captain [[E.E.%20Thomas|E.E. Thomas]], the founder of [[Thomas%20Boat%20Line|Thomas Boat Line]].

He worked for [[G.%20Carver%20Rice|G. Carver Rice]] for many years, and he ran the [[CBS%20Furniture%20Store|CBS Furniture Store]] at [[Stark%27s%20Hardware|29-33 Broadway]]. He also worked at [[North%20Country%20Community%20College|North Country Community College]], for the New York State Police as a dispatcher in [[Ray%20Brook|Ray Brook]], at [[American%20Management%20Association|American Management Association]] in shipping and receiving, and at [[Trudeau%20Institute|Trudeau Institute]].

He played the drums in various bands over the years including Zrimwich (1977), Wild Root, and the Majors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and photography.

Steve was a frequent writer of Letters to the Editor.

'''MAJOR'S ROCKS THE BERKELEY GREEN'''

SARANAC LAKE — The band that bills themselves as being from the center of the Universe will be the center of fun on Aug. 24, when they play the final concert of the Saranac Lake Down Town Thursday night Concert Series. Majors is a rock 'n' roll group that hails from Lake Clear (a.k.a. center of the universe). The group will begin playing its special brand of music at 5:30 p.m.

Majors classifies its music as danceable-listenable-hummable-toe-tapable-original rock 'n' roll that will surely please the Tri-Lakes audience. Sponsoring the concert is McDonald's of Saranac Lake.

The group is Steve Thomas on drums, Jim Goodrich on rhythm (and lead) guitar and keyboards, Jay Dawson on lead guitar and Dan Spada on bass. Majors influences range from Latin rock to grunge and bluegrass to psychedelic rock. To create one of the best groups in the area each member agreed to check egos for the good of the sound. Majors has a unique and undimmed freshness. While staying grounded in the center of the universe, they have not lost contact with the world around.

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Majors on the schedule and delighted to have them to put a wrap on a wonderful summer season of concerts on the Berkeley Green in the center of 'the Village by the River'.
