'''William Gibney Dies After Long-Illness''' 

William Gibney, remembered by earlier residents of Saranac Lake as owner of Gibney's Market, died last night at 8 o'clock at the [[Sisters%20Hospital|Gabriels Nursing Home]] where he had been a patient for the last 18 months. 

Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of his nephew, Jack Tierney, of Cohoes. 

Mr. Gibney was born in Cohoes on September 28, 1878. He joined [[John%20Boyer|John Boyer]] in his first market in Saranac Lake around 1908 on [[Depot%20street|Depot street]], and later moved his business to the site now occupied by the [[Post%20Office%20Pharmacy|Post Office Pharmacy]]. He continued the operation of the store until 1935, when he retired. 

His wife, the former Nellie Latour, a school teacher, died about 15 years ago.

A funeral Mass will be conducted at 9 a.m. tomorrow in [[St.%20Bernard%27s%20Church|St. Bernard's Church]] for William Gibney, who died Monday night at the Gabriels Nursing Home following a long illness. 

Burial will be in [[St.%20Bernard%27s%20Cemetery|St. Bernard's Cemetery]] in the Spring. 

There will be an [[Elks|Elks]] memorial service at 7:15 o'clock tonight a  the [[Keough%20Memorial%20Chapel|Keough Memorial Chapel]] where the body is reposing. The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary at 8 p.m.

Purses aggregating $2500 will be put up by the fair association for the horse races during the fair, and there will be eight races j during the three days. One of these races will bring together several locally owned horses and it is expected in the free-for-all, Peter Kennedy owned by Philip Adler and Earle Finnegan will meet H. K. B. owned by William Gibney. This race should attract a great deal of interest and attention on account of the rivalry that exists among the local followers of these two owners. In addition to these horses, [[James%20A.%20Latour|James A. Latour]] will bring his horses, Frances McKinney, Georgia-Regina and Schuyler Gratton, to compete. It is expected at least thirty horses will take part in the races.
