He came to Saranac Lake with tuberculosis, in the early 1900s, and he lived in the community for sixteen years. He apparently lived in the home next to David Twichell. Mr. Werry is mentioned in a letter from Reverend Joseph Twichell to Mark Twain. On December 16, 1907, Twichell sent Twain "a photo of R. L. Stevenson's house at Samoa, given me by the man..."
