Dorothy Blanche Smith (later Brown) went by Blanche. She was the daughter of Charles H. Smith and Mary Ellen Colon, and worked as a nurse, like her mother. Her mother remarried Jack Carrier in 1899 after her father died. They had a son, Blanche's half-brother, John Dean Carrier. Blanche eventually married someone with the last name Brown and had a daughter, Celia Ellen.
