John D. Rockefeller, Jr. was the only son of Standard Oil industrialist John D. Rockefeller. He was involved in several notable scandals, though he is most remembered for his philanthropy, giving over $537 million to myriad causes over his lifetime.
In 1905, he leased Camp Arokortu, near Wawbeek on Upper Saranac Lake, for the summer season.
