A son of Edmund S. Horton, Edmund Carlton Horton operated Horton's Greenhouse at 108 River Street (7 South Street) and flower shop at 84 Main Street (later 76 Main Street). He was a noted skater and bobsledder, earning a silver medal in the 1932 Winter Olympics in the four man bobsled with the Saranac Lake Red Devils. After his death, the Edmund Horton Memorial Trophy was created for the local three-mile speed skating event.
Edmund C. Horton is buried with Mildred H. Murch Horton (1893-1936) in Pine Ridge Cemetery; her burial record is marked "wife of Edmund C." He later married Katherine Griffith.

Funeral rites were conducted Sunday from the home for Edmond Carlton Horton, 48, prominent Saranac Lake florist, who died suddenly at 12:45 p. m. Friday of coronary thrombosis.
Rev. Alvin B. Gurley, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiated. Pall bearers were F. Paul Stevens of Lake Placid, Bert Bishop, A. F. Shortt, Floyd Yando, George LaPan and E. W. Cady.
He was born in Saranac Lake on March 25, 1896, the son of the late Edmund C. and Pauline Hutt Horton. He attended the Saranac Lake schools and Mount Herman Preparatory school. Later he studied at Cornell university.
During his younger years Mr. Horton became an outstanding speed skater and hockey player. He earned many laurels and set several records in speed skating during 1909 to 1914. He later established his name in the hockey field.
In 1932 he became a member of the Red Devils bobsled team that participated in the Lake Placid Olympics at Mt. Van Hoevenberg run. During the following three years, he continued with the team racing at the meets held at that ran.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife, the former Miss Katherine Griffith of this village and a daughter, Miss Phyllis Horton.
