Lieutenant John E. Lester was a World War II veteran who was killed in action.  He was a son of Mrs. Isabel Lester Murphy.

Lt. John E. Lester

Mrs. Isabel Lester Murphy of Saranac Lake was informed by the war department that her son, Lt. John E. Lester, was killed in action in Germany March 3.

Lt. Lester was an honor student at Saranac Lake high school, and graduated in 1941. He entered the armed forces early in 1944 and was commissioned at Fort Benning Dec. 27. Lt. Lester served in England and Scotland before going into action in Germany and Belgium.

"Lt. John Eugene Lester, 21, son of Mrs. Joseph Murphy of 93 Broadway was killed in action March 3, 1945, somewhere in Germany, according to a War Department telegram received yesterday. He went overseas on January 20. Lt. Lester was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School and St. Lawrence University."
