He was drafted into the Army on April 3, 1918, and served in Europe in A Company of the 311th Infantry unit until he received a shrapnel wound in his left leg on October 19, 1918 after participating in the fighting in the [[1]] in September. He returned to the United States on March 11, 1919. After his return he relocated to Philadelphia and became an orthodontist.
