ROCHESTER - Ruth C. Thompson, 86, of Rochester died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003.
She was born Dec. 23, 1916 and spent most of her life in Rochester. She was married to Dr. Howard Thompson, a Rochester urologist.
During the 1950s, the Thompsons bought the Bucknell/Wetherill Camp on Upper Saranac Lake. The family would make the camp their summer home from the close of school until Labor Day, with Dr. Thompson commuting to Rochester during the week.
Many of the Thompsons' six children were active around the lake, teaching water sports and Thompson driving the mail boat. The camp was overflowing with family and friends, and Ruth always provided gracious hospitality and good food.
Mrs. Thompson cared deeply for her family and friends. She enjoyed catching up with people when she could, and after her husband died, she spent her time traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Ruth is survived by her children: Karin Rein and her husband Rob of Fort Royal, Va., Ingrid Mahoney and her husband David of Geneseo, Christian Thompson and his wife Beth of Broomall, Pa., Thomas Thompson and his wife Karen of San Francisco and Maja Sokmensuer of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Thompson of Madison, Conn.; 10 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and a son, Eric C. Thompson.
A memorial service was held on Aug.. 19, 2003 at Crawford Funeral Home in Rochester.
