James Powers Knapp

James “Jim” Powers Knapp, age 86, of Saranac Lake, died Friday, May 13, 2022 at Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in Reber, New York on July 25, 1935, he was the son of Ivers and Elaine (Brockney) Knapp. James married Patricia Ann Powers on Saturday, July 10, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church in Lake Clear. James was predeceased by his wife of 66 years on May 5, 2021.

James was a master plumber and steamfitter. He owned and operated James Knapp Plumbing and Heating in Saranac Lake for over 50 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping. James and his wife Patricia also loved to go square dancing and enjoyed wintering in Leesburg, Florida. James was a master carpenter and loved making Adirondack-style furniture.

He is survived by two sons, Paul (Sharon) Knapp of Lake Clear, and Richard (Maria) Knapp of Liverpool; and one daughter, Brenda (Lee) Daunais of Saranac Lake; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Kalora Finucane of Essex, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alvin and Sonny, and one sister, Janice.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, May 19 from 3 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Joanne White officiating. A private burial will take place at Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
