Richard H. Jewtraw was a [War II veteran].  He was the owner of D.J.'s Rustic Restaurant and a former officer with the Saranac Lake Police Department.  He was a son of William Jewtraw of the St. Regis Hotel.

SARANAC LAKE -Richard H. Jewtraw, 61, owner of D.J.'s Rustic Restaurant and a former officer with the Saranac Lake Village Police Department, died early Monday morning at Saranac Lake General Hospital.

Mr. Jewtraw had served with the police department for 28 years until his retirement in 1974. He had been the owner/operator of the restaurant for four years.

Mr. Jewtraw was born Jan. 30, 1918, in Saranac Lake the son of William and Luella DeGray White Jewtraw. He had served in the Army in World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, having made his home most recently at 103 Kiwassa Rd.

He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Ducatt; his mother, Mrs. Luella White; and a son, Richard J., all of Saranac Lake; a stepson, Floyd Yelle Jr. of Syracuse; a sister, Mrs. Isabelle Mock of Willsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Fortune Funeral Home Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Bible Vigil will be held Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m.  A funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at the Fortune Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
