Born: July 8, 1839
Died: May 23, 1937
Married: Laura Celestia Spelman
Children: Elizabeth, Alice, Alta, Edith, John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
John Davison Rockefeller Sr. was the founder, in 1870, of the Standard Oil company. He was the son of William A. Rockefeller, Sr., and the brother of William A. Rockefeller, Jr., who had entered the oil refinery business in 1865, two years before John D. bought his first refinery. John's company absorbed William's refinery in 1867.
He seems to have no connection to the Adirondacks except through his offspring.
