Born: March 7, 1886 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Francis Merritt and Fannie Riordan (Reardon)

Died: 1945 buried in Pine Ridge Cemetery

Married: Margaret Emma Mahady

Children: Frank Westley Merritt, John Thomas Merritt

Benjamin's stepmother was Sarah Eaton Leinfelder Merritt of Brooklyn, New York, who was born ~ 1860 and died April 15, 1935.

His stepsister was Sadie Leinfelder (January 13, 1884 - May 1968). Sadie was a Y1C in the US Navy in World War I, died in St. Petersburg, Florida and is buried in Long Island National Cemetery, sec 2X grave 6761.
