Darius Ogden Mills was the founder of the Bank of California with funds he accrued during the California gold rush of 1848. He became a prominent philanthropist and was once California's wealthiest citizen. He was the father of Elisabeth Mills Reid, who founded the D. Ogden Mills School of Nursing at Trudeau Sanatorium in his honor.
