 Daniel S. Hough built a hotel at the north end of Upper Saranac Lake in 1864 that would become the Saranac Inn.  In 1874 he was listed as a delegate from St. Armand to a Republican convention held in Elizabethtown.  He is buried in Brookside cemetery.
