Altamount Dairy Bar, owned by the Altamont Milk Company, opened originally in Tupper Lake on July 12, 1942. It opened in Saranac Lake on the Old Lake Colby Road, then 28 Lake Flower Avenue, relocated to 8 Bloomingdale Avenue in 1948, and ended at 28 Broadway in 1966. It had additional locations in other area towns, including Malone.

It was managed by Philip Collins, and later by Maurice Mitchell.

According to Bob Seidenstein, ""In addition to the standard ice cream parlor fare, the Altamont featured three specials — The Idiot's Delight, The Undertaker's Delight, and The Pig's Dinner.…whoever finished a Pig's Dinner was rewarded with a button that proclaimed, "I Made a Pig of Myself at the Altamont Dairy Bar."

They fielded a softball team.

. This is the second such store to be opened in this village by the Altamont Milk Co., of Tupper Lake.
