Louise Marie Tiblis

Louise Marie Tiblis, born Feb. 15, 1928 in Auburn, New Hampshire, passed at the age of 93 and was taken into the arms of the Lord on Feb. 13, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at Elderwood in Lake Placid.

Her parents were Frank Middaugh, a merchant marine, and Ruth (Bancker) Middaugh. She was raised on her grandmother's farm in Ware, New Hampshire and even lived on a barge with her uncle during the Great Depression. Marie graduated high school in Ware, New Hampshire and went on to complete nurse's training at Sacred Heart Hospital nurse's program in Manchester, New Hampshire, becoming a registered nurse. She worked at Ray Brook TB Hospital caring for patients on iron lungs and teaching families to administer TB meds to patients recovering and going home. She was also employed at Saranac Lake General Hospital, Sunmount in Tupper Lake, and ended her career in nursing teaching home health aides in Saranac Lake. Marie was active in the Bloomingdale Park Commission, establishing programs for children in the summer. She was a member of the Bloomingdale Fire Department Auxiliary. Marie also delivered Meals on Wheels. She had been a member of St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale where she taught Catechism. Marie is survived by her brother Thomas Meehan of Georgia.

She married her first husband, John E. Gillespie "Jack" and had three daughters: Jean Gillespie Darrah and spouse Thomas Darrah of Saranac Lake, Sandra Gillespie Cimbrec and spouse John Cimbrec of Plattsburgh, Carol Gillespie Eldridge and spouse William "Sarge" Eldridge of Bloomingdale. Grandchildren are Aaron Gillespie of Ray Brook, Chelsea Sheefer and fiance Matt Garrant of Peru, Amanda Cartier and partner Aziatic Cordes of Plattsburgh, and Jeremiah Hauser of Peru. Marie married her second husband Joseph Carl Patnode and had one son Joseph Carl Patnode Jr. and spouse Tena Euber of Saranac Lake. Grandchildren are Gabrielle Patnode and boyfriend Joseph Butler of Aspen, Colorado, and Oliver Patnode.

She is predeceased by her parents, husbands, and sister Kathy Lamay Smart. Our blessed mother was a naturalist, enjoying teaching about science, origins of the earth, birds, trees, and animals. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, mountain climbing (even into her 70s) and skiing and figure skating. She was an avid reader, poet, puzzler, knitter, cook, cat lover, and joke teller. Marie was especially proud of her French Canadian heritage coming from the Poirier (Perry) family from St. Anicet, Quebec into Trout River, where her ancestors raised many children in a small house on Cook Corners. Marie cared for many people over the years, including her mother. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched. Her nature was to allow people to live and let live always with words of encouragement and comfort. Never complaining and always helping.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service for family members and friends is being arranged for a later date. The M.B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to share a memory or leave condolences at www.mbclarkfuneralhome.com
