William Alan Hewitt

William “Bill” Alan Hewitt, age 65, of Bloomingdale, died Monday July 13, 2020, at Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Saranac Lake on Oct. 31, 1954, the son of Jack and Mary (Stickney) Hewitt.

Bill was a lifelong resident and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1972. He voluntarily joined the Marine Corps, serving from 1972 to 1974 during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of lance corporal. Bill graduated from North Country Community College in 1978 with an AAS degree in mental health. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Bill is survived by his son William “BJ” Hewitt of Moira and his daughter Michelle (Bryan) Frazier of North Carolina. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his brother Dick (Brenda) of Saranac Lake and his sister Jody (Kevin) Sewell of Pennsylvania, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John and two sisters: Patti and Ann.

Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service is tentatively set for Saturday Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale. Friends wishing to remember William Alan Hewitt may make memorial contributions to any veterans organization in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. The family will be receiving visitors at his home on Saturday, July 18.
