Henry B. Loomis Smith was Paul Smith's first son, named for New York Doctor Hezekiah B. Loomis, who loaned Smith $13,000 to start Paul Smith's Hotel in 1859. Henry Smith was one of the guides photographed by A. W. Durkee at Paul Smith's boathouse on October 2, 1885. Henry died of pneumonia at age 29.
