The Villa St. Armand was operated by Manhattan restauranteur Frank Birk as the River Mount Inn starting in 1927; Birk had come to Saranac Lake in 1911 for the "cure".

Birk started with the the adjoining nightclub, Birk's Swiss Chalet, built in 1923.

The Villa St. Armand, which formerly housed North Country Community College students, has been purchased by George and Bliss, Inc. of Lake Placid. The Wilkins Agency Saranac Lake office was the real estate agent in the transaction.

William and Germaine Miller and George and Jeanette Miller have bought the villa St Armand on the Bloomingdale Rd. The Villa, built in 1927 was formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Birk and was operated as a summer hotel for many years. The Millers will run an adult proprietary home at the Villa in the near future


Added by an anonymous reader, 10/24/2010: During the years 1971 through 1973, the villa rented out rooms to students of North Country Community College. Bob Birk ran the place with his wife Betty. Betty taught psychology classes at the community college.
