Ilse Ernest was a chemist who met her husband, Wilhelm, in Hamburg Germany. They made their way to Saranac Lake in 1933 after having lived in St. Louis, where their first son Frank was born, then back to Germany where Linda was born in Dresden in 1930. When they moved to Saranac Lake, Dieter was born. They left the area in 1935 but came back during the summers and rented a house on Trudeau Road.
