Daniel Ames, Jr. was the son of Ray Brook's first settlers, Daniel Ames and his wife, Jane Blake Ames; he was born on the Daniel Ames Farm. He was a guide in his youth, and later worked with his father in lumbering and running a sawmill. He became a millwright, installing mills in the area. He was employed as manager of the Oseetah Dairy, off the Ray Brook Road.
