Seth Wardner came to Osgood Pond in the early 1850s with his younger brother James, who had been diagnosed with tuberculosis. Together with their friend Lorenzo Rand, they camped all winter in a log cabin on the pond. They did well with hunting and trapping and Seth earned enough to build a boardinghouse in Bloomingdale. Seth was a guide; he was once guide to Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait.

Seth Wardner became a surveyor, and his name appears on many old deeds.
