Trudeau Trustee Brewster dies

NEW YORK CITY — Edward C. Brewster, 81, a long-time trustee of the Trudeau Institute, died Monday Aug. 17, 1992. Brewster was elected to the Board of Trustees of Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake in 1956 and was elected secretary in 1974. During his time as a trustee, he had served on the nominating, finance, development and executive committees.

Recently the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to establish "The Edward C. Brewster Fund" in his honor. The fund will be created by segregating the sum of $4 million from the capital funds of the institute. The purpose of the fund will be to assure income for the salary and benefits of the director. Also, the fund will be used to strengthen the credibility with funding sources, demonstrating institutional commitment to the director's programs.

The Brewster family has been associated with Trudeau since the turn of the century, Brewster's father. George S. Brewster, was elected to the board in 1909 and served until his death in 1936.

Funeral services will be held Friday at St John's Church, Route 25A in Cold Spring Harbor at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Trudeau Institute.
