]] Sport, in many forms, has always been important to the Saranac Lake area, from the earliest native hunters and trappers, to the gentleman sportsmen of the mid-1800s and after, to today's hikers and skiers. Saranac Lake hosted international winter sports competition decades before Lake Placid's 1932 Winter Olympics.
