BALDWIN TROPHY RACE SUNDAY P.M.

Starts from Placid at 2 o'clock-- Local Ski Club Will Take Sleighs to Saranac Lake for Finish and Sports Program

Arrangements are nearly complete for the first annual Lake Placid-Saranac Lake cross-country ski race for the H. I. Baldwin trophy, to be held this coming Sunday, February 14.

The race is scheduled to start on the slope of the Grand View hotel property at 2 P. M. The skiers will be started off one minute apart and timed separately as is the usual practice in cross-country racing. It is thought that the winner will arrive at the Pontiac Rink on Lake Flower, Saranac village, the finish point, within two hours of the starting time. Posts along the course will check off contestants and follow the last man through over each portion of the trail. It is expected that entries from both towns will total a dozen or more, with good cross- country men on both sides of the contest.

Beginning at the same time that the race starts in Lake Placid (2 P. M.), a program of winter sports events on Pontiac Rink will entertain the spectators during the interval while the skiers are covering the course. The program on Lake Flower will include a baseball game between the rival chambers of commerce, a kicker sled race, a free-for-all skating race, figure skating and other features among which will be the introduction on the rink of the world- famous skating champions who are competing in the invitation tournaments at Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. The dog team race, Lake Placid to Saranac Lake, which has aroused great interest, is expected to finish in Saranac Lake ahead of the ski race.

All members of the Lake Placid ski club who are not on posts or doing other voluntary duty in connection with the day's program are expected to meet near the Community Church on Main street at 1.30 P. M. where sleighs will be provided at a nominal charge to carry them to Saranac Lake.  All are urged to bring skis to use on Lake Flower while waiting for the race to finish, and some may wish to ski-jor behind the sleighs on the way over.
