Joseph B. Nevins of Lake Kushaqua was a World War I Veteran who served in the U.S. Army. A private 1st class in Company L, 326th Infantry, he was killed in action, though his name does not appear on the Saranac Lake monument. His name is inscribed on the "Roll of Honor of Citizens of the State of New York who died while in the service of the United States during the World War, Albany (1922)."
