Shopping Center Set for Saranac Lake

Ames Store Planned On Lake Flower

The Enterprise confirmed this morning that there will be & large Ames Department Store in Saranac Lake as the central feature of a shopping center on the property on Lake Flower ave, opposite the Will Rogers Hospital.

While it has been known for some time that the K and P. Management Company of West Hartford, Conn, had purchased the property two years ago, it wag not certain the shopping center would be developed.

Yesterday's Watertown Times carried a brief story indicating that the Ames people had completed their plans and that the Ames stpre would be about 30,000 square feet in si2e.

The Enterprise confirmed the story by calling the company in West Hartford. Mr. Simon Konover and Martin Patron, principal officers of the company, are on vacation in Florida until next Wednesday, but their assistant, Mrs. Sandra Shapiro, said fee plans were definite.

Mrs. Shapiro said that building would start as soon as the weather permitted and , they hoped to be in operation some time this summer, it wiili^t the eighteenth store in tfee Ames chain.

She added that there would be a super market and several smaller stores in connection with the shopping center. It Is assumed that the super market would be Loblaw's as in Malone in connection with the Ames store there.

The option on the property was obtained through the S. Curtis Hayes Agency as long as four years ago and the purchase was made in December 1966 from Mrs. Natalie Brundage. For the past several weeks there have been surveys  made of the area.  It was originally planned to have six to eight stores in the shopping center.
