Henry Uihlein II was a grandson of Henry Uihlein, a longtime president of the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With an interest in medicine, Henry II was enrolled at Cornell University when he contracted tuberculosis. He moved to Lake Placid to regain his health, becoming an avid supporter of local sports. particularly speedskating. He was a generous philanthropist in his lifetime and left large donations of property and money to the community.
