Ernest W. Seifried served as superintendent of schools here for 17 years. After retirement, he moved to Florida.

He was named King of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival in 1973.

Seifried named interim superintendent

SARANAC LAKE - The man who was superintendent of schools here for 17 years will be back on the job as of February 17.

Ernest Seifried has agreed to come out of retirement to become interim superintendent of the Saranac Lake Central School District until a new superintendent can be hired to replace Michael Nason, who died last week.

The school board met at noon Wednesday and unanimously selected Seifried for the post. He has agreed to take on the job and will return to Saranac Lake from Florida in the next few days.

Board president Thomas Buckley said the search for a new superintendent has begun and Dr. Robert Heller, who helped in the last effort, will be consulted on the new probe.

There is no specific timetable set up for hiring a superintendent.

High School Principal Dr. Warner Houth has been acting superintendent. One of the school district's four principals is appointed each year to handle school affairs in the. superintendent's absence. Houth is the appointee for 1986 and has handled the day-to-day duties during Nason's illness and since his death.
