The hotel on the north shore of Lake Clear was built in 1850 by Isaac Rice, and managed after his death by his wife, Ida H. Rice

In 1902, Rice's Hotel was managed by C. P. BunkerTheodore Peete was a long time caretaker.

The name was changed to the Lake Clear Inn in 1911; see that page for its history.
