Estelle Clare Smith Joyce, daughter of George H. Smith and Ellen Sheehan of Ohio, worked as a nurse before marriage.

She came to Saranac Lake seeking treatment for tuberculosis. Three months after arrival, she died at age 33 of pulmonary tuberculosis with hemorrhage.

The address listed on her death certificate it 54 Algonquin Avenue.
